Life of Karen

Life lesson #2

Life Lesson #2: When you reach the top of the mountain, look back to see where you have come from…. and rejoice in your accomplishment.

imageOn holiday in Scotland, Mom, Dad and I, along with 5 Canadians that Mom and Dad have walked with before, walked the West Highland Way – the most popular long distance walk in Scotland. On the second day, we walked up Conic Hill. Now, I know that Conic Hill is not considered a mountain – at least it is not as tall as nearby Ben Lomand – but it was quite an accomplishment for me. The best part about the walk up is that you could turn around and see not only beautiful scenery, but the path that you had just traveled to get there. Just about every twist and turn, incline and decline, that led you to the top of the mountain. Just turning and looking at the beautiful scenery was enough to take your breath away…. and to give it back to you. It gives you the energy and motivation to keep going along the chosen path, even knowing that it will go down into the next valley. Remembrances of the mountaintop, and thrill of doing something that is not so easy will get you through the next rough bit of trail. And when the next bit of steep trail comes, you can anticipate being about to see the view from the next mountain top.
